About Me

May 5th, 2010

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Michelle and I am a single mom trying to make a living for me and my two year old son through internet marketing.

A little over a year ago, my husband and I separated and I was forced with deciding between either putting my son into daycare full time while I went back to work or finding another way to support us that would allow me to still spend my days caring for him.  Fortunately, my mother was able to take us in and provide some support while I considered my options, and I soon started looking into ways to earn a living online.

Initially, I started earning some income as a freelance content writer through companies like Textbroker.com. Although this did provided me with a modest monthly income, it was also fairly intensive and low paying work. Usually, after spending all day caring for my son – and increasingly my mother, who was having some serious health problems herself – I would fire up the computer late at night and try getting two or three articles written for customers before going to bed, and feeling increasingly dissatisfied with the process.

What was most frustrating for me was that I knew that the people I was writing these articles for were somehow profiting from what I was writing, but I was not quite sure how. So, I started searching online for the articles I was writing for them, and I found that many of them were being published on websites that had Google Ads displayed on them. From there I began learning about the Google AdSense program, then affiliate marketing, and also how to build my own websites using the WordPress platform. I soon began creating my own blogs (I started with free blog platforms initially, such as Blogger) and putting AdSense on them, and I had my first AdSense click on May 6th, 2009!

By switching to writing for myself instead of others and creating my own revenue producing websites, my income is now passively generated instead of actively produced. What this means for me is that if a day or two goes by and I cannot work because my son is sick or some other reason, I am still earning money. The websites I have built will still continue to generate income regardless if I have actually worked that day or not. Also, increasingly I am focusing on working smart instead of just working hard – such as using methods that outsource and automate much of my work.

It is now a year into starting my business and although my monthly earnings are still quite modest at this stage, I have learned a lot over the past year and I feel that I am at the stage where my business is about to start to growing very rapidly. I wanted to document this process on this blog in order to contribute to the general sharing of knowledge regarding techniques, tools, successes and failures of different methods in internet marketing.
