June Earnings Report
Thursday, July 1, 2010 9:10June proved to be another record month for me! Here are the figures:
AdSense: $253.18
ClickBank: $344.58
Amazon: $18.66
Other Affiliate Network Sales: $57.70
Total Earned: $674.12
Reflections on June’s Earnings:
Although I fell a bit short of the goal I set last month for earning $730 this month, I’m pretty happy with the results, especially given the “MayDay” changes in Google’s algorithm.
AdSense was the area where my earnings were hit hardest by this change. Overall, my AdSense earnings were down about 20%. I went from averaging $10.44 a day down to $8.44 a day. Some of this drop I attribute to a loss of some long-tail searches, and some of it is due to a drop in visitors to one gardening site that has peaked in terms of seasonal interest. For July, I hope to get these earnings over the $10 a day mark again (at least $310 for the month).
ClickBank was the area I saw the most improvement. My VA has been targeting several of these sites hard with backlinks, and I’ve seen some nice SERP movement. As a result, my ClickBank income nearly doubled between May ($186.54) and June ($344.58). I went from having only ten sales in May to having 19 sales in June (plus three refunds). For July, I am aiming to earn at least $500 and to have 25 sales from ClickBank.
Amazon sales were way up from last month when I earned only .41 cents, and I fell just short of meeting my goal of earning $20 for the month. I went from only having one sale in May to having seven Amazon sales in June, demonstrating to me that just a little effort can make a huge difference when it comes to Amazon sales. Amazon is also the area I’m targeting most strongly with my website building efforts too right now, and I hope to see the results of the efforts soon. For July, my goal is to earn at least $40 from Amazon.
Other Affiliate Network Sales: I have a few affiliate links for products discussed on this blog and a few other blogs I own that belong to different networks. In June I had a total of four sales from these various affiliate networks, bringing in $57.70. Although these sales seem a bit unpredictable at this point, I’m going to set a goal of aiming to earn $50 from other affiliate sales in July.
Total Earnings Goal for July: $900
In terms of my work productivity, here is what I said I was aiming to do and the results:
- Complete ten new websites. Status: 7/10 completed (5 Amazon websites plus two AdSense websites). I finished seven new websites and have another two ClickBank websites near completion. In addition, I have the articles ready for my tenth (AdSense) website but I still need to put the site together. Hopefully I will have all these done in the next day or two, and then move onto building websites for July.
- Set up four Aweber lists. Status: Only built two lists. I’m still struggling with these.
- Subscribe to Unique Article Wizard and make at least ten UAW Submissions. Status: I subscribed to UAW and did seven UAW submissions this month (well, my VA actually did three of them). All were approved, with most articles going out to over 900 directories and blogs at a rate of 30 a day. I’m eager to see the results from these submissions!
- Track my websites. Status: I’ve been tracking things pretty closely this month, and later today I’ll be running through all my keywords again to see where things stand.
- Find keywords for July’s sites. Status: not done. I’ll be doing keyword research for July’s sites in the coming week.
- Cloak affiliate links for eight of my completed affiliate websites. Status: Only got links on four websites cloaked, although I realized that several of my websites don’t really need this done since I’m redirecting using .info domains. Still, I do have a few that still need this done.
Goals for this Month:
- Build 10 More Websites. I’m aiming to build five more Amazon websites, three more AdSense websites and two more ClickBank websites.
- Set up four more AWeber lists. Same goal as last month, let’s see if I can do it this time.
- Create a standard backlinking system for my new websites and put it in motion. I’ll be writing more on this system in a few days and my VA will be doing much of this work.
- Do keyword research for July’s sites and hopefully August’s sites as well.
- Finish cloaking links on any affiliate websites that need it done.
- Track my websites and continue updating my records of keyword performance.
- Set up my own blog network for link indexing purposes. I’ll write more on this as well once I have started putting it in motion. But basically I’m developing my own blog network to help make sure my backlinks are found and indexed by Google quickly.
Also, not on this list, is the work my VA and writer will be doing as well as many of my standard daily tasks such as I described in my last weekly update. I am also going to add that I think the decision to hire a VA is really paying off. After several months when my earnings seemed stuck at the $300 level, I’ve seen some nice and consistent movement upwards during the past two months which I attribute primarily to the backlinking she has been doing for me (which has translated into higher SERPs for several of my keywords).
Although these monthly earning and project goals might be a bit ambitious given my time constraints, I’m hoping I will at least get close if not surpass them. Wish me luck!

Congratulations on your June earnings!
I am wondering about your strategy regarding the Amazon sites. Right now, it looks like the income from Amazon is not very impressive, compared with the other income sources. Are you seeing such a potential in building more Amazon sites?
I love Amazon and buy everything through them, but the affiliate commission seems awfully low compared with other systems.
Somehow, this is for me a conundrum. You probably heard about Pareto’s principle (80/20 rule) and from my previous activity in sales (intangible products, insurance mainly) I can confirm that it is true. So, the riddle for me is how to maximize my efforts, and leverage also my future VA’s work, earning the most amount of commission, without putting all the eggs in one basket.

Hi Dan – Thanks for your comments, and those are very good questions. In all honesty, I have put very little effort into developing or ranking my Amazon sites, but I do think they have a lot of potential and I also like the idea of diversifying my income streams more broadly as well (instead of just ClickBank and AdSense). Amazon pays much less in terms of commissions than ClickBank or many other affiliate networks, but there is a much stronger trust factor (people are more willing to buy from Amazon).
I still haven’t got any of my Amazon sites ranking high yet, although there are a few right now that are starting to move up in the rankings. I am going to wait a couple of months until I’ve built more backlinks to these sites and they have had a chance to move up in the ranking before I fully evaluate Amazon’s potential. But I do know that there are some people who are doing very well earning from Amazon. Check out this blog/post to see an example:
http://www.affiliateblogonline.com/2009/12/02/how-much-did-we-make-on-amazon-this-month/
As mentioned in a previous post, I’m also starting to target higher ticket items for Amazon. Previously, most of my Amazon sales have been in the $20-$30 range, which doesn’t add up to much very quickly. But seeing that nice $160 sale I made last week was very rewarding, and I expect the revenue will climb pretty quickly in the near future (or at least I hope so!).

These are some very good earnings – certainly exceed my own. I have found Amazon to actually be quite a good income source – whilst the commission is only around 7% it is a trusted brand which sales practically everything so it is possible to get a lot of sales!

Looks like you had a great month and a very productive one. I think it’s awesome that you set out goals every month. I find if that I don’t set out specific goals I end up acting like a chicken with it’s head cut off. Good luck for the month of July and really hope you reach your goal. I’m guessing your next goal after that will be $1000 a month!!!

Man – I hate reading your blog.
It’s so…informative. Organized.
Darn it.
Ah, well — it’s inspiring to read your monthlies, and the goals — spot on! I need to come back more often. This post has given me some ideas re: actually having goals (say wha?), and working the plan. <== LOSER!
Obviously it pays off! And: right on with the VA's, they are the key to really surpassing plateaus. You can only do so much.
Re: Amazon: Get those built by Christmas! And RANKING. You'll be a bajillionaire this time next year.

Bristolboy – Good to hear you are doing well with Amazon! I just got another $160 sale this morning, which makes two in a week, which is pretty exciting.
Yeah, I’m hoping Amazon sales will make up for the inevitable decline in ClickBank sales that comes each December. It’s all about diversity.
Tiffany – LOL, yup, that’s the plan. Aiming to be over $1000 in August! Thanks for stopping by.
Trends – Good luck, I’ll be stopping by your journal from time to time to see how you are doing!
James – Thanks!
